In the early 1980s, Wharfedale created the blueprint for modern 'budget' HiFiSpeakers. Almost four decades later, Wharfedale redefines the low-cost, high-performance speaker concept with the all-new series, the D300 series. Equal to the existing Diamond 11 series, the D300 series still reaches lower price points, the fashionable enclosures contains many similar technologies, redesigned and specially designed for this new series. The drive units and the base reflex system are particularly remarkable - no other speaker sequence delivers such high specifications against such low prices.
The D310 speakers are equipped with an advanced midrange / bass drive unit, using the latest generation woven Kevlar cones from Wharfedale, which are glued with a lightweight high-tech foam polyether edge. The driver delivers clarity and dynamic musical expression, for a detailed performance from a cheap speaker. The cone is powered by a super long pitch voice coil motor system, for a better bass expansion, with a low frequency accuracy.
The magnetic flux is controlled by a specially formed pool plate that reduces inductance and ensures that the deformation of the bass frequencies remains limited to a minimum, while oversized ceramic magnets create a high sensitivity and a flexible response over the cone.
The WFR (Wide Frequency Response) Tweeter from Wharfedale has been developed for the Diamond 11 series and refined for the D300 series. This tweeter has its own 'cupboard' - a precisely shaped back room that is muted with a fiber filling. An oversized ceramic magnet selected for a float transition from the middle range to the high frequencies, is attached to a pool piece with copper cap for the flux control. The polar piece is led to the back room to reach a low resonance frequency, which ensures excellent linearity and causing the textile dome, which is in a waveguide, contributes to a beautifully bright center area and a smooth, pure and richly defined high-frequency detail.
This gives you a high style and high performance at a low price. And because no two houses are the same, the D310 is finished with a beautiful series of Blackwood, White, Rosewood and Walnut. And with only 3 kg you can enjoy all dynamics, all brightness, all texture of high-fidelity audio from a smaller, easier to place bookshelf speaker.
The output of the drive units is carefully combined by a thoroughly investigated crossover that has been developed using Wharfedale's Advanced Software and Listening iteration system. Every crossover is carefully evaluated using a wide range of music, the emphasis on the lifelike representation of voices and instruments in addition to the dynamics of the musical version. The crossover components are equipped with low loss polypropylene capacitors and laminated core inductors for optimum transfer of the music signal. The acoustic profiled cabinets are equipped with 28 mm thick front shots - a luxury, technical key to such cheap speakers - which are profiled to the edges to reduce the reflections of the diffraction edge at the center to high frequencies.
Critical reinforcement of the cabinet panels contributes to the elimination of audible resonance and, in combination with the rounded cabinet edges, ensures a solid foundation on which the drive units can be mounted. In addition, the walls of the cabinet are coated with a specially developed internal fiber selected because of the excellent absorbent properties over a large width of the bandwidth. The result is that the listener hears the output of the drive unit, without undesirable color changes that occur as a result of panel vibrations or internal vibrations, so that more of the detail of the musical implementation becomes visible.
